The Christmas season stirs up a sense of nostalgia within each of us. We may remember attending church as a child, decorating our home, or sweet time with family. Christmas also brings with it a sense of tradition: the same meal on Christmas Day, the same movies on TV in December. This Advent season at Citylight Church we want to embrace the nostalgia and tradition of the season by looking at the Gospel of Matthew together. As we do, we will be thrilled by the wonder of Christ found in these well-known Advent passages.

The thrill of Christmas is that God sent his son Jesus into the world to be our Messiah. Our sin had separated us from God, yet God’s love for us compelled him to send Jesus to live the perfect life we could not live and then die the death deserved to die because of our sins. And so now as we celebrate Advent together we look back on Jesus’s arrival 2000 years ago and rejoice. But we also look forward to when he will come again and make all things new. God with us, what a wonderful truth!
