Counseling

Restorative care through the body of Christ to the glory of God.

What is biblical counseling?

The Counseling Ministry furthers the mission to make disciples of Jesus by caring for those in need and equipping others as stewards of God’s grace. This happens through the one  another ministry of the church as members love, pray for, apply Scripture, and gather together as members of the body of Christ. When special circumstances require care beyond the normative means of grace, the Counseling Ministry seeks to offer restorative care through the body of Christ to the glory of God.

Restorative care...

We believe God’s story frames every story. God sovereignly created all things to exist for His glory. In rebellion, all humans – Christ excluded – are sinful by nature and choice. Thankfully, through Jesus Christ, the living Redeemer, God is committed to restore what sin has broken. The sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and promised return of Jesus evidence God’s ultimate victory over sin and death. This good news requires a response. Restoration begins and continues as one faithfully turns from trust in self to trust in Jesus for forgiveness of sin, healing from suffering, and change in identity and activity.

The Counseling Ministry seeks to help people know, love, and depend on Jesus as God continues this work of restoration in their lives. Toward that goal, we typically offer counselling that covers, but is not limited to, the following concerns:

  • Premarital
  • Marital
  • Family
  • Anxiety / Worry
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Grief / Mourning
  • Addiction
  • Life Direction
  • Sexuality
  • Illness and Pain
  • Loneliness

...through the body of Christ...

The restorative work of God not only addresses sin and suffering but also creates community.  As adopted members of one family in Christ, church members are called to offer God-centered and emotionally in-touch stewardship of God’s grace to one another. Our counselors are church members who love Jesus, are grounded in Scripture, and have committed to walk alongside the specific people God has brought into the local church family.

These counselors are uniquely gifted and highly trained in methods and practice of Biblical Counseling. When presenting issues or circumstances prevent adequate counseling from being offered through the local church we refer out to affiliated Biblical Counseling ministries such as CCEF, Philadelphia Renewal Network, Lighthouse Ministries, and other select partners.

...to the glory of God.

The demonstration of God’s grace is for the good of his people and the glory of his name (Eph 1:6,12,14). Therefore, the counseling ministry desires to help people increasingly love God and others as they live to make much of Jesus in day to day life.
