Citylight Church exists to make disciples of Jesus to the glory of God through gospel-empowered worship, community, and mission. The Citylight Church staff seeks to equip the members of the church to use their gifts to see the church strengthened in the faith and increasing in numbers daily (Acts 16:5). The Citylight Church staff culture is highly collaborative, working as a team and as friends to accomplish Citylight’s mission: making disciples of Jesus to the glory of God. We are passionate about God-glorifying excellence, seek to humbly give and receive feedback from one another, and prioritize being a joyful team who work together for the joy of Citylight Church (2 Corinthians 1:24).

Executive Pastor
For over ten years, Tim Shutes has faithfully and fruitfully served Citylight Church as executive pastor. In the fall of 2023, the Citylight Church elders unanimously affirmed Tim’s call to plant the fifth Citylight Church, in New York City. This is the reason Citylight Church is seeking a new executive pastor. The executive pastor works closely with Pastor Matt (lead pastor) to discern God’s vision for the church, build the roadmap toward that vision, lead staff to equip the saints to realize that vision, and oversee the operational health of Citylight Church.
Citylight Church Profile
Citylight Church was planted in Northwest Philadelphia in 2012. Since then Citylight has grown from about a dozen friends to over 400 people gathering for worship each Sunday. Citylight Church has also had the privilege of planting three other churches in that time (Citylight Church Center City, Citylight Delco, and Citylight Amarillo).
Citylight Church is all about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are passionate about the gospel shaping us into a church that loves God, one another, and our neighbors. We gather each Sunday to worship God through song, expositional preaching, the Lord’s Supper, prayer, and fellowship. Along with our Sunday services, Citylight Church prioritizes Citygroups, the Citylight Institute, and outreach. Citygroups are groups of 8-20 people who gather weekly in homes to learn from God’s word, encourage one another, pray together, and serve their neighbors. The Citylight Institute offers classes, Bible studies, and seminars to equip Citylight members and attendees to know sound doctrine and apply God’s word to all of life. Citylight prioritizes both local and global outreach in order to advance the gospel and let our light shine before others so that they will see our good deeds and give glory to God.
At the end of 2022, Citylight Church purchased a historic building on Main Street in Manayunk (Northwest Philadelphia). Lord-willing, the building at 4050 Main Street will be Citylight Church’s long-term home and ministry center where the church is strengthened in the faith, increases in numbers daily, trains and sends church planters all over the world, and from which we let our light shine in our city so that others will see our good deeds and give glory to our Father in heaven.
