Colossians: All I Need is Christ
The entire letter to the Colossians, and today’s passage in particular, is Paul’s instruction on how we ought to walk in Jesus. The big idea of Colossians 2:6-23 (and arguably of the entire letter) comes from verse 6 and it is this:
As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
Don’t turn back, don’t veer from the path, don’t go a new way. This raises the question, how do we walk in him? The Apostle Paul gives us three ways:
1) Be rooted and built up,
2) Resist captivity,
3) Reject judgment.

Colossians 1:28 – “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
That brings us to the big idea of our passage this morning: God has given you ministers for your maturity in Christ. God has given you ministers for your maturity. In light of the big idea of our passage, this morning we’re going to consider two questions:
1. How do ministers toil for your maturity in Christ? (1:24-29)
2. How can you toil with them for your maturity in Christ? (2:1-5).

Read sermon transcriptThe big idea of our passage this morning is: Live in a manner worthy of the Son because He is preeminent.
But what exactly is He preeminent over such that we should live in a manner worthy of Him? Our passage this morning provides two primary answers: 1. The Son is preeminent over creation (1:15-17) and 2. The Son is preeminent over the church (1:18-23).
